Leaving On A Jet Plane

An interesting rendition of a classic “Denver” song, I know very little about the artist, so you get a fun fact about the original. If anyone has some info on this singer post it in comments, or don’t… either way.

‘Leaving on a Jet Plane’ is a song written by John Denver in 1967 during a layover at an airport in Washington and recorded by the Mitchell Trio that year. The original title of the song was ‘Oh Babe I Hate To Go’ but Denver’s then producer, Milt Okun, convinced him to change the title.

Ok,.. had to update it, Chantal Kreviazuk, so ya.. I beat the internet go me!  Hell, you even get a video and yes it starts with the Armegeddon clip.

Israel Kamakawiwo’ole

Israel Kamakawiwo’oleYa, this is way off the mark for me, but I like the guy what can I say. His music was introduced to me a few years back while I was in Hawaii on vacation visiting family of the girl I was dating. A very talented performer, one of those guys you look at and would not expect the voice that comes out of him. He passed away a while back, it was sad, but he lived a good life.

This is one of those classic songs that he did a great rendition of, so enjoy.

Sister Hazel – All For You

Sister HazelI like this band,.. they have some of the best vocals I’ve heard in a while. It is one of the few that you can listen to the CD or them live and you get the exact same song. This track is pretty mainstream, and I’m sure over the next few months I’ll end up posting more from them, as most of the CD is really good. Enjoy.

Mika – Grace Kelly

Mika - Grace KellyHad to listen to this song a few times before I could say I liked it. It’s one of those that grows on you.

So I dislike the way I randomly pick songs, which is basically spin the globe close my eyes and point. I have taken up the task of writing a batch script to randomly select a file in the music directory. That’s right I said “batch”, my music sits on a Windows box. Have no fear everything else is on Ubuntu, some redemption I hope.
